DIY Credit Card Fridge Magnet Flower Box

Some DIY projects can end up costing you an arm, leg and two toes. This is not one of them. This is an easy to make, cost effective project you can do with things already lying around your house. Best of all, you can do it in under 15 minutes.

What you will need

  • Credit card (or any type of bank card).
  • Permanent marker.
  • Ruler.
  • Scissors or Stanley knife.
  • Sticky tape.
  • Masking tape.
  • Colouring pen/pencil.
  • Super glue.
  • Magnet (flat or circular).
  • Potting soil (3-5 teaspoons).

How to make it:

  1. Use the permanent marker to make four lines running across the card, each line has to be 17mm away from the edge.
  2. Cut away all for corners on the lines you have drawn, using either the scissors or the Stanley knife.
  3. Now carefully fold up all the flaps, so that they form a small box. You need to carefully fold the edges to ensure they don’t break.

The little box should now be starting to take shape.

  1. Now take the sticky tape and tape the edges of the box together; wrap it around the box a few times – this will prevent any water from leaking out of the box.
  2. Next, cover the box with the masking tape – this will provide a nice, almost paper-like surface to colour in.
  3. Now, take your pen/pencil and start colouring in the masking tape. Use your imagination and make something creative and colourful; after all, this is your creation.
  4. To attach the magnet simply add super glue to one side of the magnet and attach it to the back of the box.
  5. The next thing to do is add the potting soil. Do not fill it up to the top so that you still have adequate space for your plants or herbs. I would suggest a few cooking herbs, like parsley or basil.

A few tips:

  • If you don’t want to colour in the box, try using coloured duct tape instead.
  • If you want to make it more personal, add small photos of your friends or family.
  • Don’t feel restricted when making this a fridge magnet. If you want to, you can make this a small pot for your desk at the office or anything you can imagine.
